FOREST

About

Created by artist/animator Kelsey Boncato and sound artist/composer Daniel Oldham

FOREST (for—rest) is a virtual garden of interwoven sound sculptures ––a unicursal labyrinth offering an abstract and organic realm for reflection, movement, and being.

Premiering at South by Southwest (SXSW) and as a winner of the Best VR Experience at VRHAM! Hamburg 2019, viewers move freely inside and around sculptural forms as they follow a spatialized-auditory trail deeper into a gentle, dream-like environment with no directions or tasks.

FOREST is not a game, but a space to wander.

✦ a calming forest bath

✦ a musical meditation

✦ a cosmic altered state of consciousness

Its original demo was supported with the Experimental VR Award by former Immersive Media Lab led by director Candace Reckinger in 2018 at USC School of Cinematic Arts and it exhibited internationally in 2019.

Its newest, fully-rebuilt version is now untethered in the Meta Quest 3 and was demoed with an intimate group at UCLA’s XR Spring Summit in 2024.
